Let’s face it, getting a message across in 140 characters or less can be a challenge. Shortcuts, abbreviations and condensed words are tools almost all of us have used to deliver our messages fast.  Whether on Facebook, blogs, twitter or social networking sites, proper English is losing its foothold to more popular Internet slang.

A couple of months ago we received an email so riddled with abbreviations the entire office took a good 15-minute meeting to decipher the email’s meaning and we were still stuck!  After a call to the sender, we finally got the correct translation, but we will never get those 15 minutes back.  However acceptable it is to use this language online, it is not acceptable in business conversation.  So just a reminder, in emails, conversations and press releases keep it professional and head online to let your slang fly!
